Call for submissions

Call for submissions

The Scientific Program Committee and co-chairs Rebecca Pillai Riddell and Rebeccah Slater invite you to submit an abstract to be considered for presentation at the 15th International Symposium on Paediatric Pain 2025 in vibrant Glasgow, Scotland. The theme of the meeting is ‘A lifespan approach towards paediatric pain management: From neonates to young adults’.

Oral Presentation proposals and Poster Presentations in all areas of pediatric pain are eligible for submission.  Innovative approaches to pain treatment, fundamental basic research, clinical research, and education are welcomed.  Proposals that include populations traditionally marginalized within paediatric pain research and practice will be seen as a strength.

Poster Abstract submissions from clinicians and scientists from all areas and disciplines are encouraged.

For Oral Presentations, there will be three choices (Symposia, Workshops, Panelists’ Dialogues; descriptions below). Presenter diversity by geographic regions, disciplines, career stages, and backgrounds should be considered by submitters. To help ensure the diversity and inclusion of our podiums, self-identification information within four categories (i.e., Indigeneity, racial/ethnic/cultural identity, gender, sexual orientation) will be asked for all 3 presenters. Thus, the submitting presenter should inform their co-presenters, alongside asking for the co-presenter’s title and presentation description, that they will be receiving a self-identification form link (i.e., Indigeneity, racial/ethnic/cultural identity, gender, sexual orientation) from the conference organisers (In Conference Ltd; Conference Secretariat). The submitting presenter MUST inform co-presenters they have the choice to not self-identify and that their choice will not impact the scientific evaluation of their proposal.  All self-identification forms and the overall proposal must be submitted by December 15th 2024.

IASP/Pain in Childhood SIG Members and Non-Members are invited to submit Oral Presentation and Poster Abstracts for presentation consideration at the International Symposium on Pediatric Pain. However, all selected submitters will be required to be a member of IASP and the Pain in Childhood SIG prior to presenting at ISPP 2025 in Glasgow.

An individual may only be involved in a maximum of two oral presentation submissions.

The ISPP 2025 Scientific Program Committee is committed to creating practices that promote the importance of equity, diversity and inclusion. Our ability to diversify our podiums is linked to our ability to encourage submissions from a diverse group of presenters. This also depends on voluntary self-identification. If you or a co-presenter, do not want to provide information about one or more areas of diversity, please check “I prefer not to answer” for each of the questions. The adjudication of scientific excellence is the primary priority and this determination will not be impacted by a presenter’s choice to self-identify. Once scientific excellence is determined, we will use this data to support the diversity of our podiums.

We will never present this data individually and it will always be publicly reported in aggregate and anonymized form. InConference Events  follow strict digital security practices and procedures required to ensure that your self-identification data will not be compromised. All received data will be stored securely and only authorized personnel (i.e., the conference staff and the Scientific Program Committee) will be able to access your self-identification data. We will strive to uphold your trust to enable you to share this information with us.

Symposia
Symposia consist of groups of abstracts submitted together around a common theme. The presentations tend to be data-driven on projects completed or near completion but can also include presentations that do not include empirical data. Each symposium will be 75 minutes in length, with a maximum of 3 speakers, 15-20 mins per speaker with 15-30 mins discussion.

Workshop
The workshop follows a similar format to symposia, with data-driven presentations, but includes the opportunity for “hands-on” experience. Each workshop will be 75 minutes in length, with a maximum of 2 presenters, up to 20 mins per presenter with at least 35 mins “hands-on” time. Examples include quantitative sensory testing workshops, behavioural coding workshops, patient engagement workshops, and digital interventions workshops.

Panelists’ Dialogues
Panelists’ Dialogues are an audience-interactive format in which panelists make short, relatively informal presentations that serve as a springboard to stimulate discussion amongst panelists and the audience. Each Panel Discussion will be 60-75 minutes in length. In proposing this format, your proposal must indicate who will chair the session, what exact format it will take (e.g., topics for open discussion, questions posed, etc.), and who will participate as panelists (no more than 5). Expectations regarding audience contributions to the dialogue must be explicit.

Poster Presentations
Posters are graphical presentations of research. Presenters will have the opportunity to discuss their research with interested colleagues in an informal setting. Suitability will be judged by the Scientific Program Committee. Student poster submissions that are original and/or significant will be judged by the Scientific Program Committee for an award.
